November 25, 2011

On November 24, 2011 Children of Chornobyl Relief and Development Fund held its last charitable event – appropriately the Thanksgiving Day dinner. The Fund’s team, many of whom were present from America, has an abundance to be grateful for: not only for our health, but also for the opportunity for the US-based organization to stretch across the ocean to make a difference in the lives of children in Ukraine.

Celebrating with over 130 family and friends, everyone enjoyed a traditional American Thanksgiving feast at InterContinental Kyiv’s Olivera restaurant.  Turkey with stuffing, cranberry sauce and gravy, sweet potatoes, pumpkin and pecan pies with homemade ice-cream were among favorite dishes specially prepared for the occasion by Olivera’s talented team of chefs. The guests enjoyed their meals with wine that was donated by the long-standing supporter of the Fund, Guliev Wine.

Children were looked after and entertained in the playroom. Adults tried their luck in the charity auction for prizes donated by InterContinental Kyiv, Ukraine International Airlines, Interdean, Andrea Tate, American Embassy Employees Association, Silk Route, Gusovsky restaurants, Lviv Chocolate Factory, Grand Admiral Club, as well as artwork contributed by renowned Ukrainian artists.

CCRDF’s charitable Thanksgiving dinner raised $ 12,000 towards the Fund’s final project – the far-reaching Telemedicine Project – to help make a greater impact.

The sold-out event was generously subsidized by InterContinental Kyiv which has selected CCRDF as their Charity-of-Choice since 2009.
